Small Steps Learning Center Carlisle

Welcome to Small Steps Learning Center, an NHS Preschool and Childcare Center in Carlisle, PA! We opened our doors in May 2016, and we are excited to share information about our services. We provide preschool services, including Kindergarten readiness programs throughout the school year and summer months to children ages 3 to 5 years old with varying abilities. Our highly-skilled staff are trained in many areas including how to effectively work with students with special needs. Students are taught using the Creative Curriculum Model. The Second NHS Preschool Receives Licensure!

03.25.2016 - Congratulations to NHS School Carlisle for receiving licensure to open the second NHS Preschool, Small Steps Learning Center, targeted to open in early April, 2016! Similar to the inaugural preschool in Youngstown, PA, the Pre-K program in Carlisle will support neurotpyical students, specializing in children with disabilities/behavioral needs and will also accept children without developmental delays. Small Steps Learning Center in Carlisle has a waiting list of students already and is proud to utilize the award winning Creative Curriculum as part of their program. Plans are also underway to pursue private academic school licensure with the PA Department of Education. Special recognition goes to the team for their efforts in preparing for licensure, including Cori Shepler, Sue Napoli, Diana Gutshall, Gary Hendrickson, Megan Kulp, and Naomi Johnson. Congratulations on this significant accomplishment!

Biography: My name is Suzanne Napoli and I am the Director of the Small Steps Learning Center, an NHS Preschool and Childcare Center in Carlisle, PA. I am extremely excited and looking forward to spend the school year together. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself and my background. In 2002, I began working as a teacher’s assistant in a preschool setting as I was studying for my bachelor’s degree in special education from Dowling College in Oakdale, NY. Soon after I earned my degree, I received certification in Special Education. I then worked for three years at a school for autism called Developmental Disabilities Institute in New York. In 2007, I moved to Pennsylvania and began working at NHS School Carlisle and have taught classes at Hamilton and Mooreland Elementary school for the NHS School. In 2009, I completed my internship at the Harrisburg School District for School Administration and I graduated with a master’s degree in School Administration. Since 2009, I have been the Director of the NHS School Carlisle. I live in Carlisle with my two boys Joey (5) and Declan (2). I love living in Carlisle, being a part of the community, and enjoying everything the town has to offer for my family. Biography: Paulette was born and raised in Carlisle, PA. She has over 21 years experience working with children from infants to school age. Paulette has her BA in Early Education from Kendall College and is currently going to Northcentral University for her MA in Education with Concentration in Special Needs. She enjoys photography, painting, and spending time with family and friends.

Biography: Catherine “Cat” Eicke has been a part of the NHS family since 2009 as a Clinical Specialist. She previously worked at the Ivymount School in Rockville, MD where she supported the Model Asperger Program for two years. Cat specializes in behavioral support, crisis intervention, positive problem-solving, emotional regulation and social skills training, community and transition skills, and bringing therapeutic aspects to every part of the school day. She works directly with school staff throughout their training process and across the school day. Cat is an active member of the school PTO and is a participant of several staff committees. She is also a certified Red Cross CPR/First Aid trainer and Safety Cares trainer for the school. Cat has experience teaching therapeutic art classes for students and running an after-school therapeutic martial arts program. She was also a speaker for two consecutive years for the Journey through Special Education Conference in Cumberland-Perry Counties. Outside of school, Cat enjoys art, outdoor activities, traveling, and is a major volunteer for the PA Fairie Festival. She is also pursuing her MSW from Temple University.
