Occupational therapists help children with disabilities participate fully in school and social situations by the therapeutic use of everyday activities (occupations). Occupational therapy services include an individualized evaluation, during which the family and occupational therapist determine the child’s goals and use customized interventions to improve the child's ability to perform daily activities and reach these goals.
Speech and Language Therapy
A speech disorder refers to a problem with the actual production of sounds, whereas a language disorder refers to a difficulty understanding or putting words together to communicate ideas. A child with special needs may encounter the need for either one or both of these services. Our trained staff specializes in techniques for speech and language therapies for children with special needs, including an individual diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Physical therapy is used to promote mobility, functional ability, quality of life and movement potential for children with disabilities. Our physical therapists set goals and objectives that are functional, outcome oriented, and that include specific, individualized discharge criteria.
We emphasize discharge at the initiation of therapy programming to reinforce the fact that therapy should be time limited. Successful therapy programs are designed to achieve goals in the shortest appropriate time.
